-Supernatural Planes: The Abyss-
"Karitzuians additionally believe in an Abyss Plane. The Abyss is sometimes portrayed as a place darker than Hell, though not in the sense of being more evil; most of the time it is displayed as a place of dreams, or a place of retirement, with skies of perpetual night. Karitzuians believe that the Abyss is a place conjured up by the mind, and manipulated by infinite beings. When a mortal goes to sleep, its spirit temporarily leaves its body; in some cases the spirit will first go to Heaven and record its experiences in mortal life there, before journeying to the Abyss. Here the spirit can manipulate the environment in order to create a "playground" that it can be productive and creative in. Sometimes the denizens of the Abyss can twist these playgrounds into nightmares, and sometimes the spirit can encounter other spirits of sleeping mortals, hence the wide spectrum of dreams one can have. By itself, without spirit manipulation, the Abyss (sometimes called the True Face of the Abyss) is often depicted as an alien world filled with the glowing souls of creatures, both those who are visiting and those who have died and simply want respite from the difficulties of existence."

The Landscape
The Abyss is a surreal version of a mortal world, with more extreme heights and depths. Caverns here are so big they could contain cities, and the sky is perpetually dim. The Abyss appears to have a "day" and "night", but both times have negligible differences. The "sky" has lots of lights - some like stars, some a bit stranger in appearance - and there is fog and mist but oddly, no clouds. Many natural structures here defy physics and logic, including injuring creatures even if they're immortal souls.
The geography is mostly mountainous, creating a fair amount of caverns and ravines as well. Lakes are also fairly common. Forests, flatlands, and volcanoes also occur often, with oceans, hovels, craters, potholes, and other unmentioned formations being rare. Out of all of them, flatlands are the widest and mountains are the tallest.
Stone:
The two most common rock types in the Abyss are Voletite and Vilestone.
Liquids:
Ores:
All Abyssian ores are supposedly very magically-attuned, and can be resonated or refined in order to capture energy of many different types.

Stone:
The two most common rock types in the Abyss are Voletite and Vilestone.
- Voletite - as in "volatile" - is so-named for its extremely-crumbly structure. It better resembles soil than stone, but is misleading in appearance and is notorious for sending sure-footed creatures onto their heads. It is a dark brown-blue color with faint navy streaking, and results from Vilestone mixing with a liquid.
- Vilestone is a much harder structural rock that makes up most of the Abyss' crust. It is a conglomerate of other material that has been compacted or molten, so it never truly looks like one thing or another.
Liquids:
- Crystal Water = pure H2O filtered by Stonesponge. Is just referred to as "water" in the context of the Abyss.
- Acid = pools of toxic chemicals that cannot drain where they are.
- Reflecting Lava = a glossy liquid rock with a marbled appearance secreted by Ayerowtaes Kate'Ka. Is just referred to as "lava" in the context of the Abyss.
- Ectrofire = A cool mist that resembles flame and seeps out of caverns and fissures. Extended exposure can cause rashes and singe off hair.
Ores:
All Abyssian ores are supposedly very magically-attuned, and can be resonated or refined in order to capture energy of many different types.
- Zipolion = a combustible rock resulting from Abyssian plants being trampled and compressed into the crust. It is quite common and has a red hue.
- Coretite = a deep-blue ore that occurs near pools of cool liquid. It's the result of an unknown chemical in the liquid reacting with Voletite and crystallizing over time. It is a lightweight equivalent to raw iron in terms of strength, but is extremely brittle in any temperature above 65F.
- Dulkonium = also known as "dark gold", it is amber in color and an extremely good insulator. It drips like sap from the ceilings of caves where it is exposed to heat. Legend claims it can be used to collect fire; probably a reference to how it can stay white-hot for days on end.
- Neposlavian = a glittering teal rock that refracts light like the edges of tempered glass. It's stronger than refined steel but occurs deep in the crust where it is difficult to obtain. It is known to resonate with dreams.
Plants:
- Cauldron Lily = a huge carnivorous plant like a pitcher plant mixed with a tulip. It grows only in tight crevasses, trenches, and ravines, where it's warmer and it has indirect light.
- Illumireeds = cyan bamboo-like reeds that grow near Crystal Water. When young they have no color, but glow bright as they age. As the reeds grow older they lose nutrients that help anchor them to the ground and detach from the roots, floating in midair. The older it becomes, the higher it floats, the brighter it glows, and the more it disintegrates into nothing.
- Greedy Rose = a tall plant that thrives in hot liquids, taking them up and turning its visible veins hot orange. It is quite thorny with many sprawling tendrils and a visible, glowing root system. The blooms more closely resemble wild roses and have serrated edges. Like poinsettias, they are modified leaves rather than proper petals. The Greedy Rose is so-named for its constant intact of nutrients; a mere acre of them could completely drain a hot spring.
- Voletite Bracken = a nasty swathe of thorny vines that reach out into any cool liquid, creating dangerous traps for swimmers. It only grows on Voletite.
- No-See-Ums Grass = a tall grass that grows in the Abyss' flatlands. It is completely clear, creating a surreal false-water effect over the land.
- Abyssal Grass = a scratchy short grass of distinct purple color and incredibly drought-tolerant.
- Gorreed = a messy bramble-like creeper dotted with red flowers. it will grow and dangle over any immobile surface and will sometimes grow on creatures. It is not parasitic and requires no light.
- Widow's Tears = weeping blooms with no leaves, only a single white flower. Their stems are vitreous so light is bounced around inside them. They depend on light and heat to grow, making them common on calderas.
- Firelion = a heat-resistant plant that emits its own strong heat. It depends on heat to grow. They are additionally described as "star dandelions", as they look similar and have incredibly bright blooms. They are common on the ceilings of warm caverns.
- Wolf's Foot = an unusual-looking plant with feathery leaves and yellow five-petaled blooms with one big "tongue" petal. They like to colonize with other plants, so are typically found among trees.
- Corrode Weed = a dangling creeper with barbs alternating the leaves. It is parasitic and rapidly consumes host plants; only Deadwoods can survive them.
- Spidertrap = short, wide plants that cluster together like Hen and Chicks. Their blooms resemble clematis and vary in color from red, purple, blue, and even green. Stingers dangle down from the centers of the blooms to catch dreams flitting through. They spread through their roots and runners.
- Yoil Tree = An approachable deciduous tree with orange-red leaves and distinctive orange bark. Instead of a proper wood the tree's core is a purple pulp, which can be sculpted and dried into a porous, off-white, wood-like object. It takes dyes very well.
- Deadwood Tree = a seemingly-useless tree like that of a twisted, dead oak. The patterns in the bark eerily resemble faces without being obvious. The wood is fire resistant and Deadwoods are often seen growing in lava.
Residents
Reigning Entity:
The Abyss technically has no deity, and had no other figureheads to run it before Nausicaa appointed an Arch Angel for it. Even still, the Abyss is left alone as a wild place and hardly any management occurs.
However, enough Karitzuian religions have Yin deities for their Yang ones that a new blanket concept, like the Creator, has been created for the opposite of the Creator. Since the Creator typically represents life, light, good fortune, wisdom, mercy, and other comforting concepts, the other entity represents night, misfortune, malcontent, deceit, hatred, and even stupidity, and is given names like Night, Deconstructor, and Darkness. As said on the Religion page...
"According to legend the Abyss was once created by the Creator's opposite, some kind of Darkness creature. This other god is no more evil than the Creator, but does have a different outlook on things that balances out the Creator's light and life. The Darkness created the Abyss as its version of Heaven, and resides in it. It has only a few species that it created that are native to the Abyss and have never been mortal, similar to how Heaven has few creatures in it that did not live mortal lives. The biggest difference between the Darkness and the Creator is that the Creator makes things, gives them life, and enlightens them, whereas the Darkness will create things that destroy and deprive of life, and shroud information to create secrets. Not necessarily an angry, vengeful beast that wants everything destroyed, but definitely a contrasting personality."
Unlike the Creator, the Darkness does not have many believers and is a very amorphous concept in Karitzuian religions. It is not recognized as part of the general belief system.

Trivia
- The Abyss was created anywhere between 2014 and 2015.
- The Abyss is a very unstable plane in the sense that it has no natural laws to understand, unlike other planes (Mortal Plane has laws of physics, Hell has absence of life, etc.) This can result in some very confusing and surreal experiences that lend it the reputation of a dreamworld, such as creatures both existing and not existing in more than one place at a time, one's consciousness being able to see both outside itself and through its own eyes, and patches of land with very screwy (or fun!) gravity and physics. There are also Warped spots where multiple dimensions can be seen at one time, though such spots are indescribable, confusing, and lack all reasonable explanation.
- Because the Abyss is not only underguarded, without a figurehead to defend it, and it has a glut of both passed and mortal souls, supernatural Karitzuians pay mind to it as a weakness in their Plane system, a place where beasts and spirits from other Planes can easily invade. However, while most attackers come through the Abyss, there are surprisingly few attacks at all. Some suggest that it's because of the bewildering nature of the Abyss, coupled with the unpredictable natives and the writhing Void that occupies its perimeter. As one Elechik put it, "The Realms are a bubble in some mountains, and the only way to get in is through a bramble thicket filled with serpents".
