-Abyssian: Ept-
Epts are short, serpentine creatures with two short arms they hold up like wings. Tipping each arm is a single claw. They are covered in overlapping scales that lengthen and turn irregular the further down the body they are, giving them a tattered appearance. The scales are light, dark blue with an iridescent finish, and are only partly anchored, allowing Epts to flare them expressively. The ones framing the face extend beyond it a bit, following the pattern of a reptilian snout, but the actual face is quite flat and hidden under all of the scales. Epts have large, glowing, expressive eyes that can change color to reflect their mood.
Like Night Mares, Epts are incredibly shy; when caught out in the open they turn translucent to avoid being seen and flee. They live exclusively in burrows near pools of Crystal Water where Illumireeds grow, using their sickle-like claws to cut down the reeds to eat them. They communicate with soft whispering sounds. A group of Epts is called a pod, and the pod's behavior is similar to meerkats: one Ept is always watching for the rest of the group's safety and lets out a shrill whistle if it spots a threat, causing the entire pod of them to flee to their burrows. The guard Ept is always an Alpha that the entire group chooses to favor, and is the only one that will actually attack the threat instead of hiding, using its translucency ability to its advantage. When deceased Epts disintegrate into smoke, leaving only damaged scales behind which can supposedly be used as a diamond replacement. Similar to Night Mares, Ept pods can be befriended by giving them precious trinkets. The Alpha then keeps it as a reminder of the new friend. The sorrowful legend for Epts is that they are the souls of abandoned children who banded together during harsh times and couldn't separate since. Ept Eye Colors: By default Epts have green eyes, indicating relaxation. When the Alpha is on guard the eyes lighten to yellow, and when the alarm spikes they flush purple to show fear. Anger and defensiveness turns the eyes red. Orange eyes indicate confusion, conflicting feelings, or indifference. |
