-Abyssian: Ibontusk-
Ibontusks are massive creatures with large hooves, slender legs and faces, and heavy bodies, tails, and spiraling horns like those of a narwhal's. They have dorsal spines covered in skin similar to shark fins. Their skin is any dark color ranging from deep blue to green. Recesses in the horns allow Ibontusks to hear, though they rely primarily on sight and smell. They have yellow reptilian eyes and visible canines used for defense along with their smooth tail clubs. They also have sharp hooves and can quickly trample threats without hesitation. Despite being wary of living creatures, Ibontusks barely react to the presence of spirits or other ethereal entities aside from demons, which they fend off by snarling and stamping their hooves.
Ibontusks don't group together by themselves, but rather mingle with herds of Night Mares. Unlike the smaller equestrians they are protective of, Ibontusks consume actual matter and are confined to the ground. They rarely see foreigners, responding with cautious optimism; they are quite gentle if approached properly. They can be ridden as long as their spines are filed and the rider can actually reach them. Riding an Ibontusk is the only way to approach Night Mares without spooking them, as the scents mingle and confuse them. Legend claims that Ibontusks rise from the souls of self-shaming warriors and their mounts. Feeling as though they haven't done enough, they manifest as Ibontusks, ready to protect the only creatures that allow the living to safely traverse the Abyss. |
